Looking for a program that could generate a slideshow from a set of photos, and burn it on DVD, I found out about QDVDAuthor. This program is a graphical front-end (a little bit more actually) to dvd-slideshow
. This latter named program actually generates a .vob file from a set of photos or pictures. As we all know, a .vob file can directly be used by any DVD authoring program, including QDVDAuthor, to play the slideshow.
To get it to work under Ubuntu was a bit of a hassle, because the dvd-slideshow package was a bit outdated and not all ubuntu-packages that were needed are installed.
To get it to work for me I did the following things:
- Install the latest dvd-slideshow version from the sourceforge SVN repository
- I installed ALL packages related to 'sox' (search for 'sox' in the name in the package manager and select them all). Just being paranoid I also reinstalled all existing sox packages to make sure it detected all extra sox packages I installed.
I installed and used xine-ui to check that the generated slide show worked.
By the way, it looks like QDVDAuthor is anything but stable, but I hope it will hold out for my simple task.
